Simply Useful Tech is a small editorial publication about consumer technology. We write for people who want their devices to be useful, not impressive.
Most technology coverage is written for people who already enjoy technology. Ours is written for everyone else: people with a home to run, a phone that keeps changing, and a reasonable expectation that a device should just work.
What we focus on
- Practical usefulness. Does this device remove a real, repeating annoyance? If not, we say so.
- Clear explanations. Jargon appears only when it changes a decision, and it always comes with a translation.
- Thoughtful buying guidance. We compare options on the things you will notice, not on specification sheets.
- Realistic expectations. Nothing here is life-changing. Plenty of it is quietly worth having.
- Transparency. When a link earns us a commission, we tell you on the page it appears.
Who we write for
Our readers range widely in age and confidence, and they have one thing in common: they are intelligent adults who simply do not want to spend their evening reading a manual. We never write down to anyone, and we never assume prior knowledge.
How we are funded
Simply Useful Tech is supported by affiliate links, including the Amazon Associates programme. Commissions never influence a recommendation, and they never change what you pay. Read the full affiliate disclosure and editorial policy.
The people behind it
Sophie Carter writes and presents most of what appears here. Simply Useful Tech is the publication; Sophie is the voice you will recognise. Read more about Sophie Carter.
